Toroidal transformers: efficiency and compactness for every need

What are toroidal transformers?

Toroidal transformers are devices designed to modify alternating current. Their characteristic doughnut shape distinguishes them from traditional laminated transformers. But what makes them so special?

How do Toroidal Transformers work?

The operation of a toroidal transformer is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When an alternating current flows into the primary coil, it generates a magnetic field that concentrates within the toroidal core. This magnetic field induces an alternating voltage in the secondary winding, with a value proportional to the ratio of the number of turns of the two windings.

What are the advantages of toroidal transformers?

    • Efficiency: thanks to the shape of the core, magnetic losses are significantly reduced, ensuring high energy efficiency.
    • Low noise: the toroidal shape helps to minimise vibration and hum, typical of rolled transformers.
    • Compactness: for a given power, toroidal transformers are generally smaller and lighter.
    • Low scattered magnetic field: the magnetic field is almost entirely confined within the core, reducing electromagnetic interference.

Toroidal transformers are an advanced solution for many applications, offering efficiency, compactness and superior performance compared to traditional transformers.

In Tector we manufacture toroidal transformers to measure, adapting the dimensions to the specific needs of the customer. Thanks to our in-house production of magnetic cores and insulating components, we offer a complete range of solutions from 10 VA up to 5000 VA.
